First Stirrings Review"Poetry is not dead. It's in a coma," ~ David WeedmarkReading David Weedmark's book made me think about whether poetry is really still dead or if it is now thriving since you can easily publish your poetry for the Kindle - for free! You no longer have to pay to get published but it might be advisable to take a course in how to produce a Kindle book. This book has some great formatting for a Kindle poetry book even though I prefer my lines of text to be a little closer to each other.
David Weedmark has a poet's heart and his poems are crisp and clear with occasional meanderings towards the sensual. I really enjoyed his poem about the lightning storm. He also talks a lot about the moon, eternity, kisses, beauty, tea, death, flowers, swimming, fishing, music, childhood memories, dreams, chocolate and love.
If you are looking for some modern poetry then you will enjoy this collection.
~The Rebecca ReviewFirst Stirrings OverviewCollected poems by Canadian poet and novelist David Weedmark. His first collection, the print edition was nominated for the Governor General's Award for Literature in 2004. It contains 48 poems, in 72 pages, with a Preface by the author. Likened to the works of Pablo Neruda and early Leonard Cohen, Weedmark's pen contains rich, evocative writing. The poems soar from the heights of love to the depths of sensuality, "illuminated by passion, wisdom and moonlight." Everything about this book represents a new approach to possibility.
