Covert Christmas: Open Season\Second-Chance Sheriff\Saving Christmas (Silhouette Romantic Suspense) ReviewCourtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques
If you are a fan of a little suspense with your Christmas romance, then you are going to love Covert Christmas. Here we have a trio of reunion romances and suspenseful adventures sure to warm you up on a cold winter night.
Open Season by Marilyn Pappano starts this anthology with a bang when Natalia Parker comes home from work to find her former lover, Josh Saldana on her door step. After nearly costing him his life in the past by betraying him to the criminals they worked for. Josh wants answers, but when those same former employers put out hits on both Josh and Natalia, these two must learn to trust each other, and may find they have a second chance at life... and love.
Marilyn Pappano has written a fast paced and suspenseful love story. I enjoy a good reunion romance and here we have a delightful one. Tension is high as Josh and Natalia try to outwit their enemy, against a festive background of Christmas celebrations in a small town. Seeing them overcome past betrayal to find a new and stronger love is sure to warm your heart.
In Second-Chance Sheriff by Linda Conrad, former sheriff and single father Cameron Farrell prefers to spend his Christmas alone to remember his late wife but he gets a lot more than he bargained for when former love Tara Jackson shows up at his mountain home. Tara is desperate for his aid to survive the hit placed on her by her former employer, the attorney general. In a dangerous blizzard, these two reluctant love birds must survive a deadly enemy and the elements. Soon they find out more than just their lives are at stake, they may lose their hearts as well.
I've been a fan of Linda's every since I "discovered" her for the first time a few years ago and eagerly snap up any new story she writes. Tara and Cameron are struggling with a past that has wounded them both, yet they find hope at a new life in each other. Pressure mounts as Tara's enemy draws closer and Cameron is forced to put his experience as a former sheriff to use to keep them alive. We even have a slight touch of the paranormal in the form of Cameron's daughter Chloe and her insistence that her dead mother promised she was sending an angel to be Chloe's new mother. Here we have a perfect blend of taut suspense and tender emotion that will leave you with some hope in your own heart.
Loreth Anne White rounds out this trio with Saving Christmas when formerly married Special Forces soldier Jack Bannister and reporter Cass Rousseau find each other again in a dangerous war zone. Christmas is bittersweet for these two, when they remember their wedding and the loss of their son which destroyed their marriage. However, now they have a second chance at love when they join forces to rescue a little boy named Christmas, who reminds them so much of their own dead son.
Loreth Anne White gives us a heartwarming story of triumphing through tragedy to find a second chance at love. Jack and Cass were crazy about each other in another time and place until their loss drove them apart. Watching them learn to trust each other once more to work together saving young Christmas after his whole family was slaughtered, is sure to warm you from the inside out, maybe even bringing a tear or two along with it. The sense of urgency is brilliantly done in this short but thrillingly paced tale.
If you are looking for some short, quick reads that are bound to chill you, thrill you, and then leave you with the warmth of Christmas in your life, than the three novellas found here in Covert Christmas are guaranteed to be just what you are looking for this holiday season.
