Deadly Mission: Canadian Airmen Over Nuremberg, March 30th/31st, 1944 ReviewCANADIAN AIRMEN OVER NUREMBERG is a short pamphlet on the role Canadian aircrew played in the Bomber Command raid on Nuremberg on 30/31 March 1944. The Nuremberg raid was the worst defeat suffered by Bomber Command during World War II, 95 bombers being downed with 11 more fit only for scrap. Of the 545 RAF KIAs alone, 112 were Canadian.Author William Rodney packs a lot of information and illustrations in the pamphlet's 42 pages, covering Bomber Command organization and training along with RAF/Luftwaffe night tactics and technology before relating the events of 30/31 March. Along with giving a general description of the raid's progress, he follows the experiences of one Canadian crew from 427 Squadron.
The pamphlet also includes a number of b&w photographs along with color maps, combat scenes and aircraft profiles.
Though CANADIAN AIRMEN OVER NUREMBERG almost seems overstuffed at times, you have to give Rodney and CEF Books credit for aiming high. Viewed as a well-illustrated introduction to the Nuremberg raid, Rodney's account gets a thumb's up.Deadly Mission: Canadian Airmen Over Nuremberg, March 30th/31st, 1944 Overview
