The ships of the Canadian Pacific Group, National, and Union Castle lines (His Merchant fleets in profile ; 3) ReviewThere are two sources of information about historic ships that I can fully recommend to the reader which are; Lloyds and Duncan Haws. In this series of books by the latter author, he lists all the ships of specific shipping companies. In so doing, Haws immersed himself in the details of each fleet in order to produce so many complete works.
This particular work - No 1 in the series, deals with the Union, Castle, Union & Castle, Allan and Canadian Pacific Lines. Specific information for each vessel incorporates; Name, year built and by whom, tonnage, dimensions, machinery (engines) and the builder, composition of hull (iron, wood etc) and important years (change of role or owner) and fate.
These briefest possible details of all the ships of each line appear beneath a profile sketch of each vessel (only one sketch for each of the sister ships) which measure no more than an inch or two and exist purely to give an idea of how the vessel looked. These books are useful for those wishing to identify a specific ship and will probably prove to be a springboard for further research.
The inclusion of photographs would have made a significant improvement to these works.
