Little Wolf is the twelve year old aboriginal boy who participates in his first buffalo hunt with his father and tribe around the year 1620 on the Great Plains of Canada. Henri Bernier is a twelve year old French boy whose mother came to Quebec from Marseilles as a 'filles du roi', one of the King's Daughters. The year is 1685 and Henri is bound for Quebec City where he will apprentice as a carpenter to his uncle. Henri is a habitant son, a child of early French settlers who settled the land of New France, which later became in part, Quebec. Seven more children's stories are told of different immigrant and settling experiences in parts of Canada.
