Lifting the Silence: A World War II Canadian Bomber Pilot Reunites With His Past ReviewI truly enjoyed this book. I have read many WW2 books and am always eager to read about little known aspects of the war. Lifting the Silence is a story told through the perspective of a RCAF Bomber Pilot, his life, his harrowing escape from occupied France, and eventual return to those who saved his life. What makes this book so impactful is that it is written as a collaboration between the subject and his son. There is a wonderful emotional undertone throughout the book. This book, highlights the important part Canada played in the war, and the burden they shouldered. Reading the book, I truly felt I was sitting in the room with the author's father, listening to him spin the tales of his life. There is such a humble feeling to the book as well, which is exemplified in the quote "The real heroes didn't come home." It is this stoic attitude that really endeared the story to me, and made me realize there was much more to the war than the major events we all know.
