Federal Forfeiture Practice Manual ReviewI am an attorney in two U.S. states (notwithstanding my Canadian address). The growth of civil forfeiture laws in the U.S. is symptomatic of over-reaching, greedy governments eager to set aside the Constitution in the name of so-called "law enforcement." (In fact, forfeiture is just another revenue generating gimmick--sort of like photo radar and traffic enforcement.) As the writer points out, every American should be appalled since even the most zealous, flag-waving Republican may find themselves one day a victim of forfeiture. I am finding this manual a very useful and necessary guidebook for my immigration and taxation clients. The writer clearly has a mission to educate us about forfeiture, as well as provide an action plan for fighting back. I recommend this manual for every lawyer, regardless of his/her specialty. I guarantee that at least one of your clients will be a victim of forfeiture, and every lawyer has a responsibility to have at least a basic understanding of the law. One distracting point: It doesn't appear that anyone edited the manual. There are numerous grammatical errors, etc. But, it's still readable--and written with a sense of humor.Federal Forfeiture Practice Manual Overview
